145,000 beer lovers call for UK-wide cut in duty charged on beer and cider served in pubs

As Chancellor Rachel Reeves readies her inaugural budget address, a coalition of around 145,000 CAMRA supporters is pressing the UK Government to enact measures that will benefit pubs and breweries across the country.

A Fair Deal for Local Businesses?

In collaboration with top representatives from the Society of Independent Brewers, CAMRA has submitted innovative financial projections to the UK Treasury highlighting the significant benefits that would arise from a nationwide reduction in tax on beers and ciders sold at local pubs.

A proposed tax break of 20% on pints sold in pubs is expected to generate a substantial increase in employment opportunities and inject £70 million into the economy, by prompting consumers to shift their purchases from supermarkets back to local establishments.

CAMRA is pressing the Chancellor to uphold his pledge from the Labour manifesto to revamp Business Rates in England, a policy that disproportionately burdens pubs and puts traditional shops at a disadvantage when pitted against e-commerce.

In the first six months of this year, data from PwC indicated that over two pubs are shutting down each and every day.

Pubs are the beating heart of communities, but they're being crushed by an unfair system that favours online giants and multinational brewing conglomerates.

Pubs are essential components of neighborhoods, but according to Ash Corbett-Collins, they're struggling under a system that privileges online companies and large brewing corporations over them.

The e-lobby tool can be found on CAMRA's website, allowing beer lovers to make their voices heard in the fight for fairer business rates and a healthier pub trade.
