Brewers accused of 'drinkflation' for cutting booze in beer

PINTS are weakening as beer giants cut back on their consumption of alcohol - without decreasing its prices

Drinkflation is the same as "shrinkflation" with supermarkets and companies accused of trimming the size of goods without passing on savings to shoppers.

Popular brands the likes of Fosters's, Old Speckled Hen, Bishops Finger and Spitfire have watered down their concoctions - and are selling the concoction in bottles and cans the size they were before.

Foster's, Old Speckled Hen, Bishop's Finger and Spitfire are among brands which have reduced their alcohol contents.

The Mail on Sunday reports that the volumetric alcohol content at Foster's declined from four per cent at the beginning of this year to 3.7 per cent.

Old Speckled Hen's ABV tumbled from 5% to 4.8% while Spitfire Amber Ale dropped from 4.5% to 4.2%, and Covent Garden dropped from 5.4% to 5.2%.
