The historic Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub in St Albans, which opened in 793, has closed after the business that operates it went into administration.

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans, Hertfordshire, has survived wars, epidemics and financial crises since it was founded in 793AD.

The well-loved pub dates back to 793 and was renamed after running cockfighting sessions in the pub at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, reports HertsLive.

Host Christo Tofalli announced the sad news, saying he was left 'heartbroken'.

A historic pub that's served suitors for 13 centuries may have received its last orders.
