Calories now appear on menus from major restaurant chains

Thursday, April 7, 2022

This new legislation, which enters into force today, Wednesday 6th April, is part of a government plan to tackle diabetes by helping restaurant visitors make healthier choices.

Restaurants, cafés and fast food shops with more than 250 workers will be required to print the calorie count of their products on menus, websites or online delivery platforms.

The administration's decision to change calorie-counting on menus, as part of a push to contain the rise in obesity was criticized by a string of restaurant operators, chefs and food critic as new labeling laws come into force today for those with more than 250 workers.

Some high street chains already display calorie content on their menus, such as Wetherspoon's pubs and The Real Greek restaurants.
