Edinburgh radio station to be transformed into new city hotel
Thursday, June 16, 2022
A new 55-room aparthotel at Forth Street and Broughton Street Lane was approved by a parliamentary committee from Edinburgh city council, subject to conditions.
Playfair House, which is being built from the side at the entrance of Broughton Street Lane, will be dismantled and its new façade of natural stone and precast concrete will blend in with surrounding buildings.
It is estimated that there are approximately 18 jobs that the aparthotel will create.
A listed Forth House will also remain largely unchanged at its façade while the historic building will be retained.
Supercity Aparthotels 'We are delighted that our aparthotel operation has been approved by the committee, which will preserve the fabulous Forth House.
Supercity currently has six properties in London, Manchester and Brighton, with two new sites planned to be opened in York and Leeds by 2023.
Car park in front of the building is to be reduced from 24 to 7 spaces, of which 5 include charging points for electric vehicles.
