Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts - Volunteers Needed!

Thursday, June 17, 2021

Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts is an Edinburgh-based volunteer-led organisation which prepares and delivers free meals to more than 1,100 people in the city every day. Set up in April 2020 in response to the pandemic, Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts aims to tackle food insecurity and waste by repurposing surplus food and distributing it, without judgement and cost, to those who need it most.

We urgently need volunteers aged 16 and over for roles including the following:

• Qualified or experienced chefs

• Kitchen Porters • Packers

• Delivery drivers and cyclists

• Admin Volunteers drive

Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts. Chefs and Kitchen Porters take food donations and turn them into breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Our Packers make up Day Packs which are delivered by car, bike and on foot to those who need them. As Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed many volunteers are reducing the number of shifts that they can undertake. However, demand remains with more than 1,100 people every day relying on us for food.

Volunteering is flexible. You can opt for a regular pattern or volunteer on a week-by-week basis. Our recently launched Kitchen Assistant programme is an excellent opportunity for volunteers looking to gain valuable kitchen skills.
