Description on the guide as "absolutely exceptional," the three Michelin-starred restaurant, which was top of the list for the fourth time last year, has taken the top spot.
Peter Harden, the co-founder of the Guide, said: "Sat Bains has been a leader of the national restaurant scene for more than a decade now, and his lockdown curry service is a superb example of the resilience and creativity demanded of the sector to survive the pandemic – qualities the best restaurants still need as we emerge from this national trauma."
Ratings and reviews on an elite culinary guide are based on 30.000 reports from Harden's yearly survey of 3.000 regular guests. Purnell's, in a place less than an hour's drive away in Birmingham, came in second place.
Restaurant Sat Bains has risen to No.1 in Hard's top 100 best restaurants in Britain from Nov 4 the previous list for 2020, edging Purnell's with Birmingham just outside the top spot.
Since Harden's last survey in 2020, the number of fish and shellfish specialists has rocketed from 151 to 158; so too has the number of Japanese holdings rocketed from 73 to 85.
The guide from The Harden says of Mr. Bains, who completed his cooking training in the former Wilmorton site of Derby College: "Just outstanding in every way.
It is a testament to Sat Bains and wife Amanda's hospitality that they have created one of the country's best-rated gastronomic destinations in a former motel amidst the flyovers on the edge of the city.
