Friday, June 19, 2020
The beloved Five Sisters Zoo have announced that they will reopen on Monday 29th June after closing due to COVID-19 for 3 months.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that Scotland would be moving into phase two of lockdown as of 18th June. New easing of restrictions means that outdoor businesses such as zoos, outdoor sports centres and garden attractions can reopen as of 29th June. The FM also stated that such businesses would have to offer online ticket purchasing, to limit contact.
Five Sisters Zoo released a statement on their Facebook page expressing their excitement and confirming that online ticket purchasing would be made available soon.
They said: “We are delighted to announce that the zoo will be reopening from Monday 29th June!
“We are currently in the process of setting up an online ticketing system, please bear with us while we do this. In the meantime keep an eye on our social media accounts and website over the coming days for further details.”
At the beginning of lockdown, the zoo was financially struggling, there were serious concerns over it’s survival. However, after creating a crowdfunder page and opening up their own garden centre, the zoo has managed to raise £71,700!
