Government has 'no plan' for introducing hospitality work visa
Wednesday, September 7, 2022
In an official response to last month's petition, which had 16,957 signatures at the time of writing, the government said it had no plan to establish a visa pathway for recruits recruited at or near the minimum wage.
The petition, initiated by Thiago Luz Togni (Director-General of Temper Shoreditch (London), calls for a visa similar to the seasonal worker visa for landscape gardeners, to allow EU citizens to come to Britain to work in the catering industry for up to two years.
The statement said the government 'recognise the ending of free movement is a significant change for businesses' and has shown it 'believes immigration must be considered alongside investment in, and development of, the UK's domestic labour force, rather than as an alternative to it'.
