Hospitality and tourism companies join calls for May reopening

Friday, February 26, 2021

The newly inaugurated Hospitality & Tourism Action Group has warned Scotland's tourism and hospitality sector could suffer massive damage if it is not allowed to flourish alongside other parts of the United Kingdom, where some 285.000 jobs face threats.

Scottish hospitality bosses have backed Boris Johnson's 17th May timetable to reopen the tourism and hospitality industry and not the timetable presented yesterday by Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who they said was met with 'utter dismay, confusion and anger.'.

The company has set itself a time frame of its own to re-boot the industry after nearly 12 months of lockouts and other restrictions.

The industry believes it has been needlessly caught up in a situation which is threatening to wipe out all green shoots of recovery by 2021.

Even if the country moves from its current closure to a Stage 3 as announced by the government, the group feels there will be no escape in two months time.
