This morning the Michelin guide announced its prizes for 2022 and a number of restaurants took their rightful place.
Simon Rogers's flagship eatery L'Enclume in Cartmel was awarded three stars at Ikoyi in London, including two stars in the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2022.
Not in the North, but in Simon Rogan's L'Enclume in Cumbria, which this morning became the first restaurant outside London and Bray to make history in the world by acquiring three Michelin stars, the highest honours you can get.
Michelin has said that there is hardly any restaurant that is better integrated in the region where it is situated, adding: "An enormous amount of time and creativity goes into every superbly crafted, stimulating dish, which makes eating at this highly accomplished restaurant a truly memorable experience.
As Thom Hetherington, chief executive of Manchester's Northern Restaurant and Bar Show, points out, it is the first time a restaurant in the North has won the gong in the 49-year history of British and Irish travel guides.
In Wales, Gareth Ward's outright edgy Powys restaurant Ynyshir has been singled out for two stars - after it has had one since 2015.
