Lidl to sell 'stunted' fruit and vegetables after British drought

Lidl said Lidl is set to sell 'stunted' fruit and vegetables that have been affected by the drought to help farmers and ensure their food is not wasted.

The discount chain has written to its UK food suppliers to offer its support after a sustained bumper year.

Where possible the discounter will now take on products that are affected by the drought, including those that are not as big as those buyers are used to.

The company said that this approach would ensure that 'help to prevent perfectly good, quality produce from going to waste because of variations in specifications'.

Lidl boss Ryan McDonnell called on other supermarkets to do the same.

'While some supermarkets have decided to introduce a special wonky veg label for items that do not quite meet any specific specifications, we don' t believe in creating the wrong market.
