Many Britons still under strain from food inflation -Aldi's UK boss

Aldi boss Giles Hurley has explained the main modifications that savvy shoppers will use to save money on groceries.

Inflation in the UK grocer is easing, although many Britons still suffer from the cost of living crisis now lasting for two years, said the boss of discount supermarket chain Aldi UK on Monday. Inflation in British food prices hit highs of

more than 19% in March, the highest level since 1977.

Hurley said Aldi's expansion programme was "unrivalled" in the industry since it had hoped to build up even greater market share.

The official measure slowed to 13.6% in August, and whereas industrial data had a reading of 12.2% in September, rising food prices remained a big drag on many households "finances.

The German-owned chain also announced plans to spend £1.4billion over the next two years to open new sites, rehabilitate existing sites and upgrade its distribution network.
