Together backed by VisitScotland, VisitEngland and VisitWales, the Great Britain Day Visits Survey revealed 20.6 million tourists made day visits north of the border of people who live in other parts of the United Kingdom, spending around £956 million.

Tourist visits from Britons to Scotland have gone up 12% during the first quarter of this year, figures from the tourism trade body Divs show.

The number climbed from 18.4 million visits in the first three months of 2022 to 12 percent.

Day trips on tourist purpose differ from recreational activities as the latter include visits of more than three hours to engage in recreated activities.

In the first quarter of this year, the number of free time visits was 71.6 million.
