Parents want discount on healthy foods to protect children's health, poll reveals

 According to the survey consumers want supermarkets to offer promotions and rebates on healthy staples in order to protect children's health in the cost-of-living crisis.

Responses to the poll commissioned by the Food Foundation indicated that parents were most keen on assistance with their bread, dairy, fruit and vegetables, while convenience retail stores and major shops had most of the offers available.

Anna Taylor, chief executive of the Food Foundation, said: 'These findings echo Which?’s research showing that families, especially single parents, are being hit particularly hard by the cost-of-living crisis.

The most recent data from the Food Foundation shows that almost one household in four with children (24.4 percent) reports food insecurity when skipping meals, when starving or when spending an entire day without food.

Most families in Britain depend heavily on mainstream supermarkets for their groceries, so we'd like to see retailers step up their efforts to sensibly support families with children with the cost of living crisis.

In a statement, they said: "Poor-quality diets are a major contributor to the health crisis which has been slowly building in the UK.

When asked if they buy fish, 54% of households with unsafe diets reported buying less meat and 14% of households with unsafe diets.
