Monday, February 1, 2021
The latest data of unemployment figures gathered by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that Scotland’s unemployment rates is continually remaining lower that the rest of the UK. The new figures show that between September and November 2020 Scotland had an employment rate of 4.4%, whereas the UK’s rate sat at 5%.
The latest report suggest that the Scottish economy has suffered less during the second lockdown. However, it is worth noting that the extent of the impact is yet to be determined, as many currently rely on the Jobs Retention Scheme. Many are anxious of the future of their role when the scheme ends.
S1 Jobs reported a 73% reduction in job advertising in the first six weeks of the March lockdown, however only a 28% drop in the last six weeks. They noted that jobs including finance and analytical roles are outperforming the curve as companies look to invest in staff to ‘help navigate the current situation’.
