Stonegate to sell 'around 1000' pubs

Monday, February 6, 2023

UK's biggest pub groups wants to sell about 1.000 of its outlets for an estimated £1.27bn three years after taking over a rival chain.

Stonegate, owned by private equity firm TDR Capital, is said to have tried to convert many of its pubs leased and rented to run by businesses.

They assume that the phase-out of approx. one quarter of these properties is part of a longer-term strategy of the Group and that a sale is not imminent.

About a quarter of this was in its managed business, while the larger majority was leased and let out.

Stoke-on-Trent and TDR Capital declined to comment.

It comes after rival chain JD Wetherspoon unveiled about 45 pubs for sale late last year.
