Study: Hotels are generally cheaper than Airbnb
Monday, September 18, 2023
Hotels typically beat Airbnb on price, according to a study which says that many holidaymakers are 'caught off guard' by the find
Lodging providers have a reputation as being cheaper than traditional options because guests don't pay for personnel on site.
That compares to the cost of thousands of hotel rooms compared with 300.000 single rooms on popular accommodation lettings websites.
The study involved 13 destinations in the United Kingdom and 37 outside the world
The analysis was based on the average tariffs of the 12 months until May.
In the picturesque seaside town of Southwold, Suffolk, hotels average £155 but deals on the property rental websites tend to be a hefty £223.
On the Greek island of Santorini, Airbnb and Vrbo were typically 71 per cent cheaper, at £203 - compared to £119 for hotels combined.
Airbnb and Vrbo only considered the listings of whole properties, whereas the hotel price surveys excluded five-star sites.
