Pub chain JD Wetherspoon (JDW.L) has revealed an ambitious plan to spend £22 million modernising stores, including opening new ones, to create 22.000 jobs.

Wetherspoons has announced plans to open 18 new pubs and renovate dozens more - but warned its initial £145million investment would be contingent on no further closures and "constant changing of rules"

JD Wetherspoon currently runs 871 pubs in Britain and Ireland.

The pub project will bring 20.000 new jobs over a 10-year period.

Wetherspoon founder and chief executive Tim Martin said: "Our immediate investment will provide work for architects, contractors and builders as well as result in 2.000 new jobs for staff in our pubs.
