Whitbread, which also owns chain Beefeater and Brewers Fayre, said it had saw comparable growth in sales of its Premier Inn hotel rooms and its food and drink in Britain, which recorded a near 17% year-on-year boost over the 13 weeks to 1 December 2016.

It was also boosted after last year's result was slowed by the spread of Covid, in which many people postponed their travel beyond the holiday season because of the pandemic.

"Despite a more challenging period for the UK economy, our winning business model continues to deliver outstanding value and quality for our guests."- Alison Brittain

Whitehall said Premier Inn Britain was performing outstandingly with the business and residential market which was due both to better occupancy rates and higher average room prices.

It cheered a strong performance in both London and the regionally as it said its budget deal in the Premier Inn was reaching customers amid the cost-of-living crisis.
