Welcome back to our 'Spotlight' series where we shine the light on some of the ‘Rising Stars’ within our industry revealed at Scothot2023 , which recognised the country’s most talented up-and-comers…..

Today, our guest is Stefanie Anderson from the Gleneagles Townhouse! (Learn more about Gleneagles Townhouse here)

What world leader is Stefanie related to?...................Keep on reading to find out what it is. 😊

  • Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Stefanie Anderson and I am the Bars Manager at Gleneagles Townhouse. Originally from the Isle of Seil, I have lived in Edinburgh for 6 years and have worked in some of the citys best restaurants & bars.

  • Where did you start your career at?

I started when I was studying Events Management at Queen Margaret University, where I worked at the Corn Exchange (now the O2 Academy) as casual events staff. I progressed to Event Supervisor here, then took these skills to Australia after I graduated.

  • What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

Hospitality is all about creating memorable experiences to our guests, and knowing that each day, our guests choose to come dine and drink with us motivates me to deliver the best experience possible for them.

  • What do you do in your current role?

My day varies, going from helping the team design cocktails and menus, creating events for our members, designing our in-room and mini bar offering and training our team on all things beverage.

  • What would you do (career-wise) if you were not in this current job?

I am very green fingered, so would have definitely been a gardener or horticulturist in another life!

  • Who is your hero? Why?

Becky Paskin is a living legend, what she has done for inclusivity in the whisky and hospitality industry is outstanding.

  • What advice would you give your younger self?

My stubborn younger self wouldn’t have listened to any of my own advice, but enjoy the process more, don’t be in such a rush.

  • How do you see the hospitality industry going further/changing?

Staff retention in the industry is at an all time low, so further changes in management style and working conditions is going to have to happen, but the progress we have made is fantastic!

  • Why should people consider working in the hospitality/Tourism sector?

No matter whether you see hospitality as a life long career or a stepping stone, the skills you develop here will build you as a stronger candidate and person, which will benefit you more than anything. Once you’ve been in the weeds on a Saturday night you can handle anything!

  • Tell us three things about you that no-one knows?

I am related to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
I collect miniature bottles of spirits.
I like to play old Playstation 2 games in my spare time.
